Coming Australian Grand Prix Events
The following are events that are coming soon. These events are part of the 2008 Myer Tan Australian Chess Grand Prix, a large chess competition with prizes (all strong events are normally part of the grand prix).

2008 Freytag Checkmate Open
The 2008 Freytag Checkmate Open was held on the 5-6th of July. The venue was the Prince Alfred College, Adelaide, a 20-minute walk from the Adelaide centre. This year's tournament (I played in it last year) has shaped out to be a very strong tournament. The tournament was won by IM David Smerdon (2463) with 6.5/7. Equal 2nd-4th were GM Dejan Antic (2476), GM Darryl Johansen (2423) and IM Andras Toth (2401), all with 5.5/7.

2008 Gold Coast Open
The Gold Coast Open was held at the Gardiner Chess Centre in the Gold Coast, Mudgeeraba, QLD on the 28-29th of June. IM Stephen Solomon (2441) won the event with 6/7, remaining undefeated throughout the tournament. 2nd was Moulthun Ly (2345), who hasn't played this year due to Year 12 studies, with 5.5/7. Equal 3rd-6th with 5/7 were GM Dejan Antic (2476), FM Jesse Sales (2307), Benjamin Lazarus (2031) and Jason Hu (2141).

2008 Victorian Junior Chess Championship
The 2008 Victorian Junior Chess Championship was held at Box Hill Chess Club in Canterbury, Victoria. The championship was comprised of two tournaments. Tournament 1 was the Under 12 section and was held on the 28-29th of June. Tournament 2 was the larger Under 18 section and was held on the 30th of June - 3rd of July.
Tournament 1 was won by Bobby Cheng (1958) with 7/7.
Tournament 2 was won by both Cedric Antolis (1800) and Bobby Cheng with 7.5/9. Cedric won the Under 18 title on countback, while Bobby Cheng received the Under 16 title. 3rd place was Jason Tang (1647) with 7/9.
