Zong-Yuan Zhao has become Australia's 3rd Grandmaster

Zong-Yuan Zhao has become Australia's 3rd Grandmaster after Ian Rogers and Darryl Johansen. Zhao gained his last GM norm on the 31st of January in a strong international tournament in Gibraltar. Since Zhao's rating is over 2500, he becomes Australia's 3rd GM.

Zhao completed the extraordinary feat of collecting 3 GM norms is about two months. Australia's two other grandmasters, Ian Rogers, 47, and Darryl Johansen, 48, both achieved their GM status at the respective ages of 24 and 35.

2008 Australian Junior Chess Championships

The 2008 Australian Junior Chess Championships was held between the 13th to the 25th of January, 2008. The venue was Cranbrook School in Sydney's Bellevue Hill. Junta Ikeda (ACT) became 2008 Australian Junior Chess Champion.
