Coming Australian Grand Prix Events

The following are events that are coming soon. These events are part of the 2008 Myer Tan Australian Chess Grand Prix, a large chess competition with prizes (all strong events are normally part of the grand prix).

There are a couple of strong events coming up, most notably the Elwood Bendigo Bank Open (which I won two years ago!). There is also the Ryde-Eastwood Weekender, which also should be of considerable strength.

CV Secondary Schools Championship Finals 2008

The 2008 CV Secondary Schools Championship Finals (or simply State Chess Finals) was held on Saturday, September the 13th. This event was incredibly strong and, according to arbiter IM Leonid Sandler, was a stronger event than the Victorian Junior Championship. The event was won by a strong "Scotch Cardinal" team, with Eugene Schön (1938) being highest point-scorer. Scotch College will now move onto the national competition.

The final standings were
1. Scotch College
2. Balwyn High
3. Melbourne High
