The 2009 Canterbury Summer Swiss was held at the Box Hill Chess Club (Melbourne) from the 27th-29th of December. It was a 7-round swiss tournament, which was both ACF and FIDE-rated. Top seed was Samuel Chow (2328).

2009 Australian Schools Teams Championships
The 2009 Australian Schools Teams Championships was held in Scotch College, Melbourne, on the 5th and 6th of December. The highly populated tournament was organised by Kerry Lyall and arbitered by Dr Charles Zworestine.
